French students of fifth of four schools in the Basque Country (Xalbador in Cambo-les-Bains. However, Saint-Vincent in Hendaye, Maurice-Ravel in Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Piarres-Larzabal in Ciboure) participated in the two Booktrailers competitions organized by the Basque Cultural Institute (ICB) in Ustaritz, in partnership with the Ikas Center Ikas (Ustaritz). In order to support them in the realization of their “booktrailer”, a hybrid creation between text and video, the various teachers concerned benefited from a brief training with digital tools essential to this project: tablets, canva, iMovie, etc. Similarly, Once familiar with these tools. they were able to guide the students in the different stages of carrying out their video presentation of the book chosen by each of the groups of young people north basque country college students interested in the project.
If the objective was to “make others want to read” a chosen book (in Basque. Roman, comics or manga), by combining reading, creativity, writing texts and use of digital tools (shots, audio recordings, videos shooting), it was also motivated by participation in an associated competition organized over two days. The final rendering consisted in creating a video of one to two minutes presenting the book chosen.
Two criteria
The competitions were held on June 13 and 24, in Hendaye and Cambo-les-Bains. The students met in a cinema to discover the productions of each. After the projection. the booktrailers were evaluated according to two criteria linked to understanding the content of the book and its technically redone attractiveness. The winners received a diploma. each teenager was given a voucher of 15 euros valid in bookstores in order to buy a work in Basque.
The partners were: Cinévasion. L’Aiglon young people north basque country cinemas (Cambo), varieties (Hendaye), the town hall of Hendaye, the Cambo media library as well as the LA BIGRAITIES La Grande Illusion (Hendaye) and at Margot (Cambo).
