SOFIANE EL BEKRI : “It is a curation of images that I have been doing for almost ten years. At the start. I shared visuals on Instagram that inspired me, and over time I told myself that it would be strong to bring everything together in a tangible project. I selected the best images. then I asked photographers, artists, painters, models that I like to share their most romantic work. It seems to me that you had launched an appeal on Instagram to collect love letters. was it within the framework of this book?
Exactly. One of my friends had a love story with a detained man. They sent letters, captures of their facetime … It allowed me to include them in the book. I also included letters from other people, sometimes anonymous, sometimes relatives. I wanted a raw, sincere, emotional material.

So is it a very personal project?
Yes, completely. It is a mirror of my universe. There are photos of my friends, couples I know, models that are also muses. It is a mixture between what I live, what I imagine, what I fantasize. The title “Romantic Gangsta” sums it all up.
