The Literacy Foundation launched the 27th edition of its program Reading as a giftduring the day of August 12 I buy a Quebec book
The initiative wants to prevent the difficulties in reading and writing by offering thousands of new youth books to children who are more helpless from 0 to 12 years old who would have more difficult to access reading.
Last year, 3,352 pounds were delivered to the North Coast region. It is therefore an excellent opportunity to give a book to a child from a disadvantaged environment.
A recent survey of the light firm suggests that 83 % of Quebecers claim that access to books during their childhood has contributed to expanding their possibilities in life.
“Literacy remains one of the social challenges of Quebec, while the province ranks in Canadian 8th in literacy. At the Foundation, we believe that each child should have access to books to learn and flourish. Offering a book is much more than a symbolic gesture: it is to take a solidarity action to build a more equitable and more educated company, ”underlines Patrick Lutzy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Literacy.
We can leave a book in more than 165 collection points across Quebec in identified boxes. Two North Shore bookstores participate in Reading as a giftor the bookstore A in Z de Baie-Comeau and the Côte-Nord Librairie de Sept-Îles.
