Greg Prato returns to the pop album that deprived Megadeth of first place

Greg Prato, journalist and writer, recently said that he understood the frustration of Dave Mustaine when Megadeth missed the first place of the American charts in 1992, preceded by a pop album which he judges mediocre.

A bitter memory for Dave Mustaine

Podcast guest Booked On Rock To promote your book The World’s State-Of-The-Art Speed Metal Band: The Megadeth Story 1983-2002Greg Prato mentioned the exit of Countdown To Extinction. In 1992, carried by the success of Symphony Of Destructionthe album seemed promised first place in the American ranking. However, it is Some Gave All of Billy Ray Cyrus, carried by the title Achy Breaky Heartwhich has imposed itself. The author dropped, without detour: “It would be one thing if it was an album like Led Zeppelin IV or the first Van Halen… But it is this album [de pop qui] prevented Megadeth from reaching the summit. I understand perfectly [la frustration de] Dave Mustaine.”

Megadeth is preparing a new album

More than thirty years after this episode, Megadeth continues on his way. As reported here, Dave Mustaine began the vocal recordings of his 17th album, expected at Tradecraft / BlkiiBlk. This disc will mark the studio beginnings of guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari, who actively participated in the composition. The group leader has praised an alchemy which reminds him of the Marty Friedman era, suggesting an opus marked by the power and diversity of influences.

A look at the history of the group

During this interview, Greg Prato also appointed his favorite training in Megadeth: Dave Mustaine, David Ellesfson, Chris Poland and Gar Samuelson. According to him, the jazz fusion of Polar and Samuelson offered at the time a unique style in the Thrash Metal, perceptible on Peace Sells et Killing Is My Business…. A combination which, he regrets, lasted only two albums.
