[CINÉMA] The Return, Ulysses and the return to order

Bringing mythological stories or Homeric poems to the screen is not an easy task for a filmmaker as it is exposed to the risk of kitsch and ridiculous. However, Many have broken their teeth. The story of The Return shows us an aging hero. broken by the Trojan War, kneaded with guilt and now [cinéma] return, ulysses return order relieved of this playfulness which once allowed him to get out of the worst situations and to defeat the most formidable opponents. A “realistic” bias at least curious. in fact conforming to the disenchantment of our time, which takes us considerably from Homer’s work and brings us closer to the simple contemporary drama. To believe that one no longer assumes the fantasy or the illusions of the imagination so much. Despite this purity. the film does not escape kitsch, whether in its costumes, in its accessories, in its improbable multi -thnical casting, or in its direction of actors, often theatrical. He consoles us. however, with a few landscapes of Corfu, Cephalonia and Peloponnese, filmed most of the time in natural light.
Strangely. The Return draws his strength from his faults insofar as the original story evokes a long absent father, a hero returned to put order in a decadent society where nothing has meaning and where the ugliness reigns, while his son, only raised by his mother, turns out to be weak and unable to straighten the country. A pattern which, inevitably, finds a particular echo in our Western democracies for fifty years … or how the imperfections of the staging go in the direction of the story.
