Vuelta 2025, 3rd stage: David Gaudu raises his arms in Costaud in Ceres, Vingegaard remains little in red

In the aftermath of the early takeover of Jonas Vingegaard (VisMa), an explanation between sprinters and punchers was expected this Monday on 134.6 kilometers connecting San Maurizio Cavanese to Ceres. And it is ultimately the unexpected David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) who raised his arms.

Sean Quinn (EF Education – EasyPost), Luca Van Boven (Intermarché – Wanty), Patrick Gamper (Team Jayco AlUla) et Alessandro Verre (Arkéa – B&B Hotels), wearing the white blue polka dot jersey, quickly extracted from the peloton to form the breakaway of the day. Quinn and glass were the most resistant, while at the rear, the Lidl-Trek formation printed a sustained pace. The green jersey Jasper Philipsen also dropped in the 2nd category of Issiglio climb before gluing.

While the gap between escapes and peloton descended dangerously, Sean Quinn became the trunk to try to arrive alone in Ceres. The American was finally revised 20 kilometers from the term and the victory was played on the sprint in a slope of less than 3 kilometers at 3.6%. Gaudu has ahead of Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) and the red jersey Jonas Vingegaard. The Danish remains the general leader, Gaudu climbs 2nd at the same time. Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) is 3rd at 8 seconds.

This Tuesday, the Tour of Spain will cross the border between Italy and France. On the program, 206.7 kilometers and the middle mountain between Susa and Voiron.
