Another nice surprise for horror movies fans! Heretic, the excellent surprise from the A24 studios is now available on Canal+. An unhealthy and formidably effective closed camera, carried by a unrecognizable Hugh Grant, in one of the most disturbing roles of his career.
The heretic horror film is available on Canal+
The July programming is decidedly ideal for chills lovers on Canal+. After the very noticed arrival of Terrifying trilogyit’s the turn of HERETIC to take over. Glowing atmosphere, psychological tension and unexpected casting: this A24 production marked fans of the genre when it comes out in theaters.
Discreetly released in the fall, Heretic follows two young Mormones missionaries (embodied by Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East) who hit the wrong door. The man who opens them, embodied by a chilling Hugh grant, sequests and subjects them to a game of faith, indoctrination and manipulation from which they will not come out unscathed. Far from the Slasher or the Easy Jumpscare, Heretic builds his terror in a suffocating camera.
The film is written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the duo behind the script without a noise, and produced by the independent studio A24, a benchmark of the genre after Hérétité, Midsomomar, or The Witch.
Shot in a single house, with a minimalist staging, Heretic plays on religious tensions, moral ambiguity and psychological vulnerability. A felted, but visceral horror, which owes as much to its frosty dialogues as to the inhabited performance of Hugh Grant, in a remarkable counter-employment.
Hugh Grant in a new register
In recent years, Hugh Grant has multiplied unexpected roles, far from the romantic comedies of the 90s which have made its glory. Forget his beaten dog air, he now took a 180 degree turn.
With Heretic, he ventures into a frankly disturbing territory. By interpreting a manipulative man, terrifying with calm and cruelty, he succeeded in an icing counter-employment. A performance greeted from the first projections, which confirms the turn started from Dungeon & Dragons or Paddington 2, where he was already having fun with his image. But it was especially Wonka, where he embodied an Oompa Lompa digital, who showed how ready the actor was ready to completely free himself from his traditional register. For our greatest happiness, he proves that he is a versatile actor.
This role in Heretic marks a new step: that of an actor capable of reinventing himself in depth, including in a radical horror film. The public was not mistaken: his performance is often cited as one of the major advantages of the film. As for the future of the saga, directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods said they had “ideas for a suite”, without confirming immediate start -up.
