Indeed, in the books of Jenny Han, the romance between the brother and the best friend of Belly does not exist (apart from a flirt that did not last). Originally, Steven is not a recurring character in the saga and appears only for his friendship with Conrad or some flashbacks. Steven’s car accident in episode 2 of season 3 therefore never happened.
