“The play that is wrong”: a controlled theatrical disaster

The piece that turns badly – Yes, she turns really bad – brings together all the elements on stage to please the public.

Built as a Russian doll that opens each time on a little more chaos. Consequently, burlesque comedy, the play features the clumsy and not quite fair actors of the Cornley Drama Society, who, let’s say, rather the habit of presenting flops.

This time. Similarly, the producer of the troop, embodied by Fabien Cloutier, intends to save the furniture with his new production, a kind of murder and mystery in English: Murder at the Haversham manor. For example,

As the name suggests, the play-in the play-begins with the death of the wealthy Jonathan Haversham (Pierre-François Legendre).

Everyone around him is shady and has at least one reason to attack him. However, His hysterical fiancée Sandra (Julie Ringuette) has an affair with her brother, Max (Lelouis Courchesne). Nevertheless, His brother-in-law and friend, Robert (Rémi-Pierre Paquin), who knows the state of his finances well, is not better.

Then the “the play wrong”: controlled theatrical inspector (Fabien Cloutier) entered the scene, in charge of the investigation and to unravel the nodes.

Everything is wrong. Comedians stumbling. are mistaken in aftershocks, miss their entry signals, while the sets – which are almost characters alone as they are central in this satire – fall into ruins before our eyes.

But as the comedians of the troop are professionals, they know how to pretend that nothing had happened … or almost.

Their relentlessness to continue this piece is admirable, and the crescendo they build, ignoring the disaster is delectable to “the play wrong”: controlled theatrical look and completely comical. It must also be said that this comedy has everything to please a large audience. even reserving some effects of pyrotechnics.

Although some humorous processes are predictable or may have been shortened, the surprise effect is still present throughout the room. The latter is also very physical and alive.

It is therefore very difficult for the spectator to stay in ice by attending this piece that turns to disaster.

Jonathan Roberge and Olivia Palacci play for their part stage and crowd entertainment technicians. Their interventions with the people “the play wrong”: controlled theatrical in the room before raising the curtain contributes to installing the absurd. participative tone of the show immediately.

Hats off to Stéphane Breton. who took over from Guillaume Lambert in the role of the butler after his accident in full performance, on July 18. He had to learn everything – texts and trips – in just five days.

Despite the risk of injuries associated with unconventional sets. the few stunts that actors must make during the play, the producers of Monarch Production had had no lining.
