Switzerland has been under a heat bell for almost a week. Even this Thursday, it will be sunny and humid in many places. In the morning, the temperatures rose to over 30 degrees in some places. In the afternoon, the source clouds form over the Alps, and thunderstorms can be raised.
Individual thunderstorms are also possible between Bern and northwestern Switzerland. 30 to 35 degrees are reached in the lowlands. Storm gusts are possible near the thunderstorm, the zero degree limit is around 4300 meters.
A cooling is not in sight
Yesterday Wednesday was the hottest day of this heat wave in the lowlands. However, the expected maximum values were easily overestimated, as MeteoSwweiz reports. The reason was likely to have been Saharast dust at 2000 to 4000 meters, which dampened the sun’s rays. Nevertheless, it was the hottest day of the year so far in many regions on the alpine north side, for example in western Switzerland, in the Jura, in Basel, in the Bernese Oberland as well as in Cham and Lucerne. However, monthly records for a August were not achieved.
In the mountains, the highest values were measured last Sunday and Monday. On the Säntis, the thermometer rose to 19.1 degrees on August 11th. The third highest August value since the start of the measurement.
The heat wave continues until Friday, with temperatures above 30 degrees. Then the values go back a little. But a real cooling is not yet in sight.
Forecast until Sunday
It is usually sunny and humid on Friday. In the afternoon, the spring clouds form, there are occasional storms. The temperatures are between 16 and 20 degrees in the morning, in the afternoon between 29 and 33 degrees. Storm gusts are possible near the thunderstorm.
The day also starts usually sunny on Saturday. Individual showers are possible in Eastern Switzerland in the morning. In the afternoon, the source clouds increase, followed by partly strong showers and thunderstorms, especially over the Alps. In the lowlands, the temperatures rise to 27 to 33 degrees, the zero degree limit is around 3900 meters.
It is usually sunny in the lowlands on Sunday. There are more clouds of spring in the Alps, in the afternoon individual showers or thunderstorms are not excluded. With a moderate bise, the maximum values reach 28 degrees.
