CMA CGM financial director Ramon Fernandez took over the presidency of RMC BFM on July 16, replacing Nicolas de Tavernost, who left LFP Media, announced on Monday the audiovisual group bought in mid-2024 by the businessman Rodolphe Saadé.
Ramon Fernandez, 58, will “guide and support the development strategy of RMC BFM, managed by (the director general, editor’s note) Régis Ravanas and his teams”, Nicolas de Tavernost having “decided to focus on the Ligue 1+” project “, the Professional Football League (LFP), specifies RMC BFM in a press release.
In addition to the Directorate General of the Treasury from 2009 to 2014, this senior official who began his career at the IMF in Washington held the functions of deputy managing director of the Orange group, “content producer of content”, and sieged “within several boards of directors of large groups”, recalls RMC BFM.
Appointed in April Director General of LFP Media, the Commercial Company of the LFP, Nicolas de Tavernost “assured the interim advertising of RMC BFM until the arrival of Régis Ravanas” as general manager, it was added.
He had joined the CMA CGM group of Rodolphe Saadé as vice-president of his CMA Média holding company in May 2024, after 37 years at the M6 group.
Nicolas de Tavernost “was able to bring his strategic and operational vision to the development of CMA Media, 3rd private media group in France”, said the press release.
RMC BFM, which notably includes RMC radio and the BFMTV channel, has faced many defections since its acquisition. The group recorded a hundred journalists’ departures as part of a transfer clause, a device allowing journalists of a media that changes ownership to leave it with allowances.
BFMTV is also faced with competition from CNews, which has become the first news channels continuously in terms of audience.
Channel officials underlined its “extreme resilience” on Thursday, before a return to school marked by a desire to go upmarket.
The CMA CGM group has also entered into “exclusive negotiation” with a view to acquiring the raw online video media, of which it is already a shareholder.
