Maxime Grousset and Pauline Mahieu found the heights

Maxime Grousset, supported by the Caisse d’Epargne Ile-de-France, and Pauline Mahieu, accompanied by the Southern Populaire Banque, was able to find the heights during the last world swimming championships in Singapore less than a year after their individual disappointments at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

GROUSSET splashes the Singapore basin with its talent

He is the other big swimmer in French swimming. With four medals including two world titles, Maxime Grousset has become, in Singapore, the most medalist French at world championships. Going on the 4x100m four -swim podium with his friends, the 26 -year -old swimmer conquered his 10e Global medal in large pool: 3 in gold (two over 100m butterfly in 2023 and in 2025, one by 50m butterfly in 2025), 2 in silver (over 100m freestyle in 2022 and in the 4x100m relay four swimming in 2024) and finally 5 in bronze.

Just that … But, these two world titles in 2025 by 50m and 100m butterfly are certainly the most remarkable. Sporting first. There are only two swimmers in history who succeeded in this double in the same world championship. But not only. The Neo-Caledonian managed to exceed a huge frustration. He had certainly obtained a beautiful bronze medal in relay during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. But he also and especially hoped for individual awards. He lived his 5e Place on the 100m butterfly and its 7e Place on the 100m freestyle like a real disappointment. A disappointment all the harder since they were home games.

But, it is in these moments that we recognize the champions. Maxime Grousset has not erased the past, he looked in front. He slightly modified his physical preparation, removed some training sessions. And he left. Without pouring too much. And, a year later, he really radiated in Singapore, in his favorite discipline, the butterfly which he dominates so much with his phenomenal power. After the consecration of 50m and completely released, he went to conquer the world title of the 100m with, as a bonus, the European record in 49 ”62. A capital letters! And a few minutes later, he won the bronze medal of the mixed relay, this time in crawl … A demonstration in the form of “revenge”, as he himself formulated, on his Olympic year which belongs definitively to the past.

Pauline Mahieu’s return copy

It is a bit of the same trajectory that Pauline Mahieu knew. A year after what she also considers a failure, she made very beautiful world championships with a 6e Place in the final during the 100m back. Perhaps even more than Maxime, Pauline lived hard after the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 where she had been eliminated in the 200m back and unskilled semi-final on the 100m back. A difficult period to cross, a real depression as it happens to athletes to know, especially in swimming, a sport so hard and so demanding.

After a period of care and distance from the pools, Pauline, supported by the Banque Populaire du Sud, has gradually returned. First of all to swimming, then to competition. She thus regained motivation, pleasure and the way to the results. During the French championships in Montpellier, she thus won 2 titles of champion of France by beating her personal record on the 100 m back in 59.13 s and recurrences on the 200 m back with a time of 2 min 08 s. The qualification for the Worlds is acquired.
And there, in Singapore, she climbs in the final after a tense dam in front of a Chinese. “I was too hungry, she explains on the site of the French Swimming Federation, And this is sometimes what I miss. Fear, concerns sometimes take over hunger and envy. There, this evening, there was no fear, there was only the desire to beat her and to go. »Great resilience and then, in the final, win a very beautiful 6e place.

This is the greatness of sport, the lessons of life he delivers … fall and get up.
