There is always a lot going on at Lake Constance, but this Friday should be special again: On August 1st, Constance is facing one of the most busy days of the year. At this date there are several events that move a high number of visitors to the border town to Switzerland.
On the one hand, the Swiss celebrate their work-free national holiday, where many traditionally travel to Germany for shopping tours. At the same time, all 16 federal states are located during the summer vacation, although the second day of vacation is only due in Baden-Württemberg.
In addition, there are local events such as the wine festival on Stephanplatz and the alley of alleys in the historic district of Niederburg, which attract numerous visitors.
Traffic and parking
The high number of visitors should be felt primarily on the streets and in the parking facilities. Already on normal summer days, the parking garages in the city center are often full from the early afternoon. For August 1, however, it is expected that the city center is already heavily frequented in the morning.
In order to counter this, the city administration increasingly relies on the support of traffic cadets that are supposed to steer traffic to available parking spaces. According to “Südkurier”, an area on Weberinninnenstrasse is available as an additional parking space, while the area cannot be used in Bücklestraße.
The new parking garage in the European district can offer relief, which is the second largest in the city with 750 parking spaces. From there, six buses drive to the city center per hour.

The city of Constance is preparing intensively for the crowd of visitors. 25 Traffic cadets of the Hegau-Bodensee Verkehrswacht and the canton of St. Gallen, according to the city, will be in use at central traffic nodes and access roads. In addition, the community enforcement service and the municipal security service are over -planned to control the traffic and keep the escape routes free.
