The actress explains that, long before her tragic death in October 2023, she and the other members of the cast – Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matt Leblanc – had already started a long work of mourning.
“We did everything we could when we could,” she says, evoking the years spent trying to support the actor in his fight against drug addiction. “But we had the impression of crying Matthew for a long time, because his fight was very difficult.”
“I am happy that he no longer has to suffer”
Matthew Perry died at 54, victim of accidental drowning in his jacuzzi, caused by the acute effects of ketamine. For Jennifer Aniston, a paradoxical feeling persists: “As difficult as it was for us and for fans, part of me thinks that it is better as well. I’m glad he no longer has to suffer. “
In his Memoirs “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing”, published in 2022, Matthew Perry returned to his debut in alcohol at 14, then to his dependence on the pain relievers after a jet ski accident. He also told there the time when Jennifer Aniston had confronted her with her addictions: “We can feel him,” she told me, in a strange but loving way, and the plural “we” struck me like a blow. “
