It was only decided in the 200th minute: Anderlecht has to go to Athens for the last preliminary round Conference League
Anderlecht knows what (and especially who) awaits them. Purple & White knows his opponent in the last preliminary round of the Conference League: AEK Athens. After a squatter against the surprising Aris Limassol, the Greeks qualified. On August 21 and 28, the two teams look each other in their eyes.
One more hurdle to go.
Anderlecht insured himself tonight with an anonymous 1-1 draw against Sheriff Tiraspol of the next qualifying round in the Conference League. In the first game, Purple-White still won 3-0 in-house.
And so it also knows his opponent for the all-decisive play-off round: AEK Athens.
The number four of the Greek competition last year did fight with blood, sweat and tears to the game against Anderlecht. On paper, it seemed to have drawn a feasible card with Aris Limassol, but after a 2-2-draw in the first game, the return game remained particularly exciting for a long time.
After each of a penalty kick, the match went to extensions. And only there AEK could make the difference. Thanks to a flater from the goalkeeper, Dereck Kutesa took care of the liberation, not much later Luka Jovic sealed the fate of Limassol in the 110th minute.
And so Anderlecht will be opposed to AEK on August 21 and 28 in the last preliminary round. The Belgian record champion first plays at home, then it makes the relocation to Athens.
The winner of that diptych is allowed to go to the League Phase, the loser is eliminated European. For Anderlecht, the Conference League is already
The safety net.
After a dramatic night in the second preliminary round, RSC Anderlecht became a visit to the Swedish BK Häcken in the Penaly Series in the Europa League after a 2-1 defeat in the return match, after the first game was finished on a 1-0 win for Purple-White.
