Gojira “is not in the position of Sleep Token or Lorna Shore” and can “take his time”, says Mario Duplatier confirming a new album for 2026

Mario Duplatier confirms that Gojira’s next album will appear in 2026 and insists on the importance of giving time to ripening ideas in order to offer a strong and innovative work.

A new album confirmed for 2026

Passing through Bloodstock Open Air 2025, Mario Duplacenti gave news of the next Gojira disc in an interview with Bloodstock TV. The drummer has confirmed that several parts of battery, guitar and bass are already recorded and that the release of the album is scheduled for 2026. For him, the essential remains not to yield to precipitation: “It is crucial to take the time to bring something fresh, new and powerful”.

He explained that Gojira has a particular situation: “We are not in the position of groups like Sleep Token or Lorna Shore, where each new album is decisive for their careers. We have been there for thirty years, we already have a solid base. This does not mean that we can relax, but that gives us the luxury of advancing without pressure”.

A demanding vision and turned to the future

The musician also recalled that each piece must be “powerful and thoughtful” before being validated, confirming the meticulous approach that characterizes the group. These words echo those he had recently made about a return to massive riffs and more metal energy, a point developed in this previous article.

His brother Joe had already specified in 2024 that the group sought to take a new artistic stage, with “significant and ambitious” songs. An approach which is part of a dense news, between a large -scale French tour and the tributes made recently as a metal heritage, especially during the disappearance of Ozzy Osbourne.

As 2026 approaches, the album which will succeed Fortitude promises to be a new step for Gojira, between the search for impact and will to renew, while remaining faithful to the requirement that has shaped its identity.
