“These are subjects that society does not look at, and my intention is to encourage people to dare to look at them. »» – Paz Errázuriz
This exhibition at the MK Gallery (Milton Keynes GB) presents 171 photographs of Paz Errázuriz And offers visitors a unique overview of Chilean society through a historic era marked by profound changes.
After studying at the Cambridge Institute of Education in the United Kingdom, Errázuriz learned in self-taught to use a camera before establishing itself as an essential artist during the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile (1973-1990).
In violation of the military regime of his country and often in direct contempt for the strict laws of censorship, Errázuriz has traveled a lot to document the life of neglected communities without fear, in particular women, indigenous groups and people driven on the sidelines of society, such as sex workers, trans communities, psychiatric patients and political dissidents.
The exhibition presents some of its most emblematic series, especially Adam’s apple (Pomme d’E adam)which depicts the life of LGBTQIA+ Chilean people, sex workers in the 1980s, and Prelude to a nude, (Anteroom of a nude)an obsessive series that captures the living conditions of psychiatric patients in long -term care.
Exhibition organized by the Fundación Mapfre in collaboration with the MK Gallery.
