Closball tale: Feesed badly because of skin – so Skye (16) now finds help

Skye Stout was insulted online after her contract pronouncement. Psychotherapist Sarah Labeder explains how something like this affects young people.

  • The 16-year-old Skye Stout is hostile online for her acne.

  • FC Kilmarnock then deletes all social media posts about you.

  • Psychotherapist Sarah Lageder emphasizes the importance of support for Skye.

  • Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher and the Chelsea women’s team show solidarity.

It should have been a moment of happiness for Skye Stout: at the age of 16, the footballer received her first professional contract with the Scottish second division club Kilmarnock. Instead, the young player was massively hostile after the publication of photos and a video by the club on the net.

Numerous users mocked and insulted them because of their acne – chronic skin disease. The hate comments achieved such an extent that Kilmarnock had to extinguish the posts again in order to protect Stout from further attacks. What does that do with a young person? The psychotherapist Sarah Labeder asks for 20 minutes.

Now support is important for Skye Stout

«In adolescence you are still very vulnerable in many ways and developmental psychology. The self -image and self -confidence are fragile, the development and development of one’s own identity are only taking place, »she says. “If so much hatred at this age, this can have a significantly negative impact on mental health and further development.”

How a 16-year-old deals with it depends on various factors. The expert explains: “To what extent she has already developed good self -worth and already partially solid self -confidence, what has she for mindset and basic assumptions that influence the handling of so much negativity and how does her social and family environment look like.”

According to Lated, it is extremely important that they receive emotional and professional support in such a situation. “First of all, you should offer her a value -free and trusting space for her feelings and the general emotional reaction.” After that, what has happened could be reflected together with the attempt to create a distance to the hated news «and to strengthen them in their self -esteem and their skills, to bring the focus on positive and sport or their talent.»

And how does the expert evaluate the fact that the club deleted the contributions due to hatred? Here the psychotherapist would have had another solution ready. So another post would have been a solution. “A post”, according to Lageder, “in which the youngsters are given full support and point out how harmful hate comments can be and that they are not tolerated by the club.» She also thinks that the comment option can be deactivated so as not to offer a new platform for hate.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher supports 16-year-old

After all, the 16-year-old is currently experiencing a wave of love on social media. Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher wrote, for example, “good luck, skye” and put a red heart. The women’s team of FC Chelsea congratulated and wished good luck for the season – combined with a pun: from the saying “Sky is the limit” became “Skye is the limit”.

An inquiry to the club is currently pending.
