As the saying says … better late than never. A book has just regained its place in a library in San Antonio, Texas (United States), 82 years after being borrowed. According to a press release from the establishment relayed by AP News, it was rendered by a person from Oregon. She found him in boxes belonging to her father, recently deceased.
The book in question, entitled “Your child, his family and his friends”, was written by Frances Bruce Strain, marital and family advisor. It is a guide for parents to help their children manage their personal relationships. He was borrowed in July 1943, when the father of the person was 11 years old. “He had to be borrowed by my grandmother,” she says.
No delayed penalty
By a competition of circumstances, the work has never been rendered. In a letter addressed to the library, signed by the PAAG initials, the person explains that in 1943, his grandmother was transferred to Mexico City to work at the Embassy of the United States. āShe had to take the book with her, and some 82 years later, he found himself in my possession. I hope there will be no delay costs, because grandmother will no longer be able to pay them, “she wrote in this shared letter on Instagram.
Fortunately for this person, the library deleted the delay costs in 2021. If this had not been the case, it should have reimbursed the sum of $ 16,000 (about 13,660 euros). Rendered in “good condition”, the book should be exposed in the city’s central library until the end of August. It should then be given to the friends of the San Antonio public library and sold for the benefit of the library.
