Working alongside the festival, Ava Whalen shared why the weekend was memorable.
“It’s a lot of new artists. A lot of it’s free, too. So, it’s just a great way to spend your weekend and enjoy your time with your community. Following the heart of jazz for years, Peter Wolf explained his connection to the festival.
“I’ve been coming to the Scranton Jazz Fest for a long time. but Marko Marcinko, the artistic director, the amazing musician up there. I’ve been kind of stalking him, unofficially, since the ‘90s, when he’s playing with Maynard Ferguson. And I’ve just been following him ever since. And he’s an amazing guy. I took a couple drum lessons from him. and so we travel from the Philadelphia area all the time and come up here and watch him. And the band here has got superstars in it,” said Wolf.
Wolf said reigniting its spirit, the festival brings recognition to the celebration of blues.
“Jazz in itself is not necessarily in the mainstream. popular. highly profitable business financially, but the artistic and all 20 years soulful sound scranton new of what goes into making great jazz musicians and musicians of 20 years soulful sound scranton all sorts starts with jazz,” said Wolf.
Jazz lovers also got to see Emmy-nominated SJF Big Band at the final show.
