More than half a century ago. Moreover, when she was a university student in the 1960s, photographer Susan Ressler began to document and question the world around her thanks to her camera. Meanwhile, His latest work. However, Susan Repel Photographs: 50 years, No End in Sight, is a retrospective presenting 238 images of her dynamic and prolific career of visual storyteller, highlighting her artistic extent, from street photography to the creation of ethnographic images exploring social and political questions internationally.
The book opens with a thoughtful introduction to feel. in which it gives an overview of its approach, as well as reflections on the influence of daylight books : susan ressler the counter-cultural movement and the protest spirit present at the national level when it started photography in the 1960s and that it began its exploration with a camera as a tool for expression and activism. She writes:
Perhaps because of their agitation. their omnipresent idealism, the 1960s made me aware of social injustice and gave me the conviction that we can all, together, change things. Can images achieve it? I still ignore it, but that doesn’t prevent me from trying.
The book is organized in sections bringing together images from six large corpus. such as Executive Order: Images of 1970s Corporate America, From Analog to Digital, and American Stories: Finding My Way Homewhich highlight the depth of curatorial reflections in the work itself, as well as the progress of the book.
About the artist:
Susan Sentler is a renowned artist. author and educator who has been carrying out social daylight books : susan ressler documentary photographs for over fifty years. His works are exhibited at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Library and Archives Canada, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and in many other important collections. Winner of two National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) scholarships is exposed and published internationally. She published two monographs at Daylight Books: Executive Order (2018) and Dreaming California (2023).
