BEND, Ore. Moreover, (KTVZ) – Parents. Therefore, caregivers, and teachers are urging the High Desert Education Service District to reconsider budget cuts that would reduce services for children with special needs.

“Recently. For example, the HDESD Board approved a budget for the 2025–2026 school year that reflects the difficult reality of a substantial funding shortfall in our Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education (EI/ECSE) program,” said HDESD Communication Strategist, Linda Quon.

Tiffany Nusser’s 4 and a half year old daughter, Adelynn, is among the children affected by the cuts. Adelynn is autistic, nonverbal and has built a strong bond with her early childhood special education teacher. Nusser said losing that familiar connection would be traumatic for her daughter, who struggles with transitions.

“Losing her teacher is not just a staffing change, it’s a developmental setback,” said central oregon parents raise concerns parent, Tiffany Nusser.
