DENVER (KDVR) — Thursday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day as storms could bring severe weather to the Denver metro area and across the Interstate 25 corridor in the afternoon.
Denver weather: Why hot days have higher chances for hail, severe storms
When to be ready for storms
FOX31 Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels said Thursday’s storms will roll over the foothills and into the Denver metro area in the early to middle afternoon.
Michels said the highest chances for severe weather will be around 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The storms will make their way to the Eastern Plains in the evening hours and will clear out after sunset.

Where storms could be severe
There is a slight risk of storms that could bring strong winds and possibly hail to the northern foothills, the metro area, and north along the Interstate 25 corridor into Wyoming.
Surrounding areas along the southern foothills and Eastern Plains are under a marginal risk for severe weather.
There is a slight risk for storms in metro area and north along the Interstate-25 corridor into Wyoming on July 31, 2025.
Impacts: Storms could bring strong winds, hail
Michels said that as the storms push east out of the higher elevations, there could be some gusty winds in the metro area, which may impact the Interstate 25 corridor Thursday afternoon.

If the storms get big enough to form supercells, there will be higher chances for hail as the storms slide east off the foothills. Michels noted that milder temperatures in the 80s are in the forecast, and chances for hail would be higher if there were more heat.
The risk for hail is expected to go down as the storms move east, past I-25. Hail chances are smaller on the plains, but the storms could bring some heavy showers that could cause some localized flooding. Michels explained that the areas likely to flood will be the same areas that usually accumulate water during storms, like puddles on lower parts of roads.
