At the end of the selection committee, the national technical director, Frank Bignet, validated a selection of 31 athletes, after consultation with its members. By adding the two athletes already selected in the women’s marathon test, the French team now has 33 athletes selected for the next world championships. This list will be completed taking into account the performance performed until August 24.
Selection for the Tokyo 2025 World Championships

A selection reserved for priority athletes
This announcement only concerns priority athletes who have fulfilled the performance criteria set both by the FFA and by the International Federation, World Athletics. To obtain this status, several ways were possible. The finalists of the Paris Olympic Games (in the first eight) could claim it, provided that it is also eligible according to the criteria of World Athletics. The other possibility was to finish first or second of the French elite championships of Talence, while being qualifiable by World Athletics and having produced the minima required by the FFA. Other athletes, including the members of the relays, will be able to integrate the French team according to the performance achieved until August 24. The final selection will be announced from September 1.
Selected athletes subject
Five athletes were selected subject to: Cyardéna Samba-Mayela (100 m hurdles), Rénelle Lamote (800 m), Louise Maraval (400 m hurdles), Auriana Lazraq Khlass (Heptathlon) and Clément Ducos (400 m hedges). To validate their final selection, they will have to demonstrate, by August 24, that they are able to perform at the highest level. This evaluation can be done in competition or in training. The specific methods will be defined in consultation with their coaches, specialty managers and the director of high performance.
The events with more than three selectable athletes
In accordance with our modalities, the three athletes on the 110m hedge podium in Talence are selecsur 110 m hurdles, the three medalists of the French Talence Championships are already qualified for the Worlds. Just Kwaou-Mathey et Sasha Zhoyafirst and second in the final, obtained the status of priority athletes. They are joined by Wilhem Belocianthird.
On the other hand, for the 1500 m and the 5000 m, the final decision concerning the third French representative has not yet been taken. Although Paul Anselmini et Etienne Daguinos have signed solid performance by ranking third in Talence, the methods provide that the results obtained until August 24 will be taken into account before validating this third ticket. This difference in approach between the tests results from a concertation work carried out with the coaches concerned, in order to respect the specificities of each discipline and to adjust the selection criteria as close as possible to the realities on the ground.
