Between R’n’B, AfroBeats, but also hip-hop, Dancehall and Reggae, Odeal once again confirms his mastery of the art of altered musical movement. On the occasion of the release of his new album The Summer That Saved Me (“The summer that saved me”), the Nigerian reveals himself through seven titles recorded between London and Los Angeles.
Globatrotter in the soul, summer does not rhyme for him with travel, but with love: a real ode to human relations for this fourth project. Among the striking songs of the album, we find “London Summers”, “Miami” or “My Heart”.
With nearly five million monthly listeners, Odeal has found a real sounding board, particularly among mixed and diasporic populations. A community role that is close to his heart: he is also at the initiative of the collective and OVMBR label – Our variances make us bold & relentless (“our differences make us daring and tireless”). Born in 2017, during an episode of severe disease experienced as a turning point for the artist, this collective has become both an artistic collective and an independent label. Since then, Odeal has undertaken to release a new project every month of November.
So, to discover the artist’s next creation, we will have to wait until November … But in the meantime, we still have a few weeks left to let ourselves be carried away by the sounds of this album thought like a soundtrack, capable of bringing us back, for each summer which saved us in turn.
