This Thursday, August 21, sees two events around “Surface”: the streaming broadcast on France TV, of the adaptation of Olivier Norek’s novel, itself reissued with Laura Smet and Tomer Sisley, who camp the main characters in the series.
The general public broadcast of the first two episodes of the new series “Surface”, on France 2, is scheduled for the evening of the start of the school year, on September 1. An ideal transition to prolong the memory of the holidays a little more before resuming the professional daily life … The other episodes will be broadcast, always by two, on September 8 and 15.
But for the most impatient spectators, “Surface” will already be available on the France.TV platform, tomorrow Thursday, August 21. There is no doubt that a good number of Aveyronnais, a fortiori in the Decazevillois basin, will view the series as soon as possible, adapted from the famous novel “Surface” published in 2019, from Aubinois Olivier Norek.
In the novel, the intrigue takes place in Decazeville and in a neighboring commune imagined, called Avalona where a adolescent corpse disappeared 20 years earlier dates back to the surface of an equally invented artificial lake. The series, produced by Quad Drama for France 2, which was shot in 2024 in the Tarn, near Mazamet, place the intrigue in Avalone-le-Haut and Avalie-le-Bas. Already broadcast in Belgium and Switzerland, three episodes per evening against two in France, “Surface” has obtained beautiful audiences, placing itself in second position.
“Laura Smet also offers a bit of herself, more than acting work”
The series has also received excellent criticisms. On social networks, Olivier Norek himself underlines that she will “beyond my hopes”. The performance of Laura Smet is particularly praised both by criticism (“stunning” according to Ciné-Télé Revue) and by the Author Aubinois: “I found my book. When she read the script, Laura Smet felt very close to Noémie Chastain and her external injuries. She completely chameleonized with this character. What she offers is more than an actress, she also offers a little of herself, of her intimacy, a little of her wounds, a little of her anger, a little of her pains. A simple actor but almost like an episode of his own life..
Tomer Sisley is “elegant and generous”
Olivier Norek also greets the game and attitude of Tomer Sisley: “ An excellent actor and who knew very elegantly leave room for the main character. I found a great generosity with him : play very well, be present, eat space and camera. But yet, succeeding in always taking a step back because he remembered that the main character was Noémie Chastain, is Laura Smet. In order not to take all the light when it could very well have done it. As in my books, there is no second, third, fourth or fifth role. We could make a series with each of the characters. They all play as if they were also a main actor. Everyone has really invested a lot in this series. The Slimane-Baptist director Berhoun (Who had made “vortex”, already with Tomer Sisley editor’s note) did a great job.
