Spain: they abandon their child so as not to miss their plane

A couple abandoned their 10 -year -old son alone in Barcelona airport at the end of July, so as not to miss their flight to their country of origin. The child could not embark because his passport was expired and his Spanish document required a visa. His parents chose to get on the plane with their second child, leaving the boy alone in the terminal.

The incident, relayed by the Spanish newspaper “20 minutes», was revealed by a Spanish air coordinator who shared her testimony on Tiktok. While the plane was preparing to leave the tarmac, the crew was alerted to the presence of an unaccompanied child in the terminal. Police quickly took care of the young boy, who confirmed to them that his parents were already on board the aircraft.

Parental negligence

The authorities have located parents on the plane and questioned them about their behavior. They claimed to have contacted a family member to come and collect the child from the airport, justification that seemed sufficient to leave without him.

The Guardia Civil immediately took matters into their own hands. She led the whole family to the police station. On the spot, relatives actually confirmed that a person in the family was on the way to take care of the abandoned child. The authorities had to manage this unusual situation where parents had deliberately left their minor child alone in a public place.

The air coordinator who attended the scene was deeply shocked by the parents’ behavior. In her video Tiktok, she said, “I’m breathless. I wonder how it is possible that parents leave their 10 -year -old son in the terminal because he cannot travel because of paper problems. ” She particularly underlined the fact that parents considered their decision as “very normal”, which added to its indignation.
