Mathilde rented a house there during their first visits, they took a stage in 2019 by buying a property. Located in the heart of a wooded area. the house required heavy renovation work before it can become their summer residence.
Each summer, their holidays traditionally start after the national holiday of July 21. Additionally, The king. not being authorized to travel on commercial flights, joins France aboard a military plane which drops him off at Nantes airport. The family then continues their car trip to Fromentine. before boarding a ferry alongside other passengers to reach the island, where their haven of peace awaits them.
With its 5. 000 inhabitants year -round and more than 30,000 visitors in summer, the island of Yeu remains one of the most preserved and isolated destinations in the European Atlantic. A perfect setting for the Belgian royal family, which finds there every year calm, discretion and nature.
