“Kpop Demon Hunters”, the animated film that ignites Netflix and the Charts – RTS.CH

Less than two months after its release, the musical animated film “Kpop Demon Hunters” continues to reach audience peaks and becomes one of the biggest successes in the story of Netflix. His soundtrack is not to be outdone with several songs placed at the top of the rankings.

Released on June 20, “Kpop Demon Hunters” is already in fourth row in the top 10 of the most seen films in the history of Netflix with nearly 160 million views. Only “Red Notice” (230.9 million), “Carry-on” (172.1 million) and “Don’t Look Up” (171.4 million) still are ahead of it, according to figures advanced by the platform on Tuesday.

Produced by Sony Pictures Animation (which also signed “Spiderman: New Generation”) and directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appehans, “Kpop Demon Hunters” follows the adventures of Rumi, Mira and Zoey, the members of Huntr/X, famous group of female K-Pop.

But if the three young women are singers during the day, they chase the demons at night and will have to fight firm against the Saja Boys, a group of rival k-pop composed of being evil and overpowered.

Playing with the codes of K-pop and bathed in a colorful decoration of fashion, cooking, style and demons, the animated film succeeds in a perfect fusion between Korean pop, American mythology and animation.

A soundtrack that also hits

And it is not only the film that is a dazzling success this summer. The novelist also a hit, even going so far as to dethrone BTS and BlackPink hits in the rankings.

This week, the song “Golden” by Huntr/X, which already has 250 million listening to Spotify, is positioned for example for the second week consecutive in second place in the American reference classification Billboard Hot 100. Several suites and variations under study

A success that is also available on social networks where fans offer works of art, covers, cosplays and choreographies in connection with the film.

Faced with such a buzz, it seems unthinkable that Netflix does not offer a suite. If the platform has not yet officially confirmed the news, according to a media investigation The Wraptwo suites would be envisaged to make it a trilogy. And we also talk about a series, an adaptation in musical on stage and a live-action remake.
