The original Matanaise, Geneviève Thibault, launches a very first novel entitled “Between the notes”
Those who know Geneviève Thibault are familiar with his passion for music, including progressive rock and Franco pop in his spare time. It is therefore not a big surprise to learn that the novel of the Matanese author now domiciled on the North Shore revolves around a musical group.
The training teacher has always had great pleasure in writing. “I have been writing for a long time, but it was in 2009 that the scenario started to take shape in my head. It was finally during the pandemic that I decided to put my ideas on paper. It took me about two months to lay a first version, ”she says.
If this part of the process was fast, it will then have taken more than two years in Geneviève to give birth to a final version. The working title of the time was “a light in the dark”, but marketing obliges, his publishing house suggested that he go to an English title. This is how “Between the Notes” was born. Moreover, the author herself adopted a pen name, Jenn Greenwood to facilitate the transition if the novel were to be translated. His mother-in-law named Boisvert, this explains that. It was ultimately BMR (not the hardware store) who agreed to publish the novel, BMR being the romance branch of Hachette editions.
The story of Charles
“Between the notes” tells the story of Charles, the keyboardist of the group Anthelia. Disilling after having lived heavy events, Charles finds himself forced to go back on the road to promote their new album which is not unanimous. It was where we forced him to leave the group.
His path will come across that of journalist Andy Taylor whose mandate is to follow the tour training. She will discover a completely different character than the one she idealized when the group was at her peak.
The action of the novel takes place in 1981. Geneviève Thibault plays on the romance aspect, but on a musical frame inspired by these years. “We don’t fall into sex, Drugs and Rock ‘N’ Roll since it would be difficult when children accompany musicians on tour. Even if it is difficult to reinvent the wheel, I tried to go somewhere that had not been explored before. »»
There are drama and romance, but also a lot of humor. “It’s a book for everyone. I had guys who read it and greatly appreciated it. There are also lots of references to music of the time. I moved away from the shots to present something new, ”says the author.
The novel “Between The Lines” will be launched in digital format on August 14 on all usual platforms like leslibraires.ca and in paper version at the end of 2025 or at the latest at the beginning of 2026.
