And whether it has been good for him. His second season at Visma-Lease A Bike threatened to turn on one big disappointment for Cian Uijtdebroeks, who already found all kinds of bad luck on his path. But in the Tour de l’Ain he freed himself with his first professional victory and also the final classification. “This was my dream,” it sounded.

Cian Uijtdebroeks and his smile are completely back.

The 22 -year -old Belgian has booked his long -awaited first professional victory in the Tour de l’Ain – and what for one. In the final ride he impressively rode solo to the win over the Mythical Col du Grand Colombier. Thanks to his development of power, he also takes the overall victory in the French stage race.

“This is really incredible,” Uijtdebroeks beamed afterwards.

Our countryman finally breaks with a period of doubts and injuries. A few weeks ago he was the victim of an accident at training, earlier this season the Belgian was forced to press the pause button after a mentally difficult period.

“In recent months have been very tough, so it feels fantastic to return this way,” explains Uijtdebroeks. “It was a dream to win a course this year. I have now achieved that goal. I mainly wanted to learn to win – and we succeeded.”

After everything he has experienced, he deserves this completely.

The eternal gentleman – despite an impressive solo of 50 kilometers – still threw with flowers to his team.

“Ben did fantastic work on the climb,” Uijtdebroeks praised his teammate Ben Tulett, who gave the cross to the Grand Colombier. “He put everything perfectly so that I could go. After that it was just giving everything to the finish.”

Uijtdebroeks steadily expanded a large lead and, with almost three minutes ahead of Belley, soloed. With that he not only assured himself of the stage victory, but also of the final victory. Tulett was the third to go on stage in the rankings.

Sports director Robert Wagner was also full of praise: “We gave everything for three days, and Cian finished it in a spectacular way. After everything he has experienced, he deserves this completely.”
