Castres. The crazy cinema are back to school

This summer, the association Les Siglés du cinema invites spectators of the CGR of Castres to rediscover on large screen four striking works signed by two essential figures of the seventh art: the American John Huston and the Swedish Bo Widerberg. Born in 1906, adventurer in the soul and a jack-of-all-trades, John Huston marked the story with more than forty films, oscillating between masterpieces and lighter projects, always carried by his verve and his freedom. The public will be able to review the Odyssey of the African Queen, a romantic adventure carried by Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart, as well as stronger than the devil, wacky police comedy written with Truman Capote. Bo Widerberg, born in 1930, is the other big name in Swedish cinema, founder of a “new wave” rooted in social reality. Two of his films will be screened: Elvira Madigan, a romantic drama with luminous aesthetics, and a cop on the roof, breathless and critical polar of the institutions. Widerberg’s works will be playing from August 20 to 26, and those of Huston from August 27 to September 2, at the rate of four sessions per film. The schedules and prices are available directly from the CGR cinema in Castres.
