Many difficulties
During its exploitation, the rue des Books de Hô-Chinh-Ville has repeatedly experienced a drop in attendance due to factors related to professional activities. Thanks to occasional adjustments, attendance has taken up and increased. However, this decrease exceeds the capacities of the limited liability company of the rue des Books de Hô-Chinh-Ville (the unit responsible for managing rue des Books) and constitutes a serious threat to the functioning of this place.
The reason came to the closure of the parking lot located on the sidewalk on rue Hai Ba Trung (from the start of rue du livre on rue Nguyen du), formerly reserved for readers and tourists going to rue du livre de Ho-chi-minh-ville, following the expansion of its activity by the owner of the facade. As a result, the rue du Livre de Hô-Chinh-Ville no longer has a parking space dedicated to readers.
Although we have temporarily solved this problem by advising readers to park their vehicle in nearby car parks, with regard to a central area, parking lots are often overloaded and rarely accept external vehicles. Some parking lots of shopping centers are quite distant, which is very annoying for readers.
The consequences of this situation are obvious. According to the Hoang, director of the limited liability company of the rue du livre de Ho-Chi-Minh-Ville, the attendance of rue du Livre has decreased sharply since the parking closure on August 1. Regarding cultural activities such as book launches, exchanges of authors and works, exhibitions, etc., attendance has halved.
“We have submitted a report to the People’s Committee of the Saigon district, in the hope of obtaining authorization for the rue du livre de Ho Chi Minh -Ville to arrange a new car park on the sidewalk on rue Hai Ba Trung, the location extending from the corner of rue Hai Ba Trung – rue le Duan until the start of the Book Street – currently the Wall of the T41 agency.”
In addition to the parking problem, activities within the rue du livre d’Hech-minh-ville are also strongly impacted by the rental of the space overlooking the street by the post office office office (the unit whose premises are adjacent to rue du Livre). If the post office project comes into service, several typical spaces of the rue du livre d’Hech-minh-ville, such as the stage B area, the free reading space in foreign languages, the space for presentation of educational books and, above all, the children’s playground, may have to close.

So she had to pay land rent. The legal mechanism being vague, there are no preferential policies for companies investing in the cultural sector, which limits the attraction and reinvestment of units.
The problem of the rue des Books de Hô-Chinh-Ville does not reside in the loss of parking spaces or in the impact on the operating space. If the street of books is considered a purely economic unit, this is normal. It is an important cultural space in a civilized and modern city, contributing to the development of knowledge and the dissemination of the culture of reading.

From its first year of exploitation, the rue du livre d’Hhich-minh-ville was recognized as one of the 10 most significant events in the city. In 2024, it was recognized as one of the 50 most attractive tourist destinations of Ho-Minh-Ville and 13 provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta. This place also regularly hosts major events in the city and the country in general, such as the festival of the book of the Têt and the Vietnamese day of book and reading.
