Champagne is not out. “But there will clearly be a pot tonight,” smiles a member of the editorial staff. This Monday, August 18 was indeed exceptional for LCI. While the Washington summit was held for Ukraine, the broadcaster ranked first news channel in France throughout the day. An unprecedented fact since the start of the measurement of its audience by Mediamétrie.
Thus, on this third Monday in August, the antenna of the TF 1 group displays 3.6 % of market share. It is in passing sixth national channel, behind TF 1 (20.4 %), France 2 (13.7 %), M 6 (9.4 %), France 3 (8.7 %) and France 5 (3.7 %). It is ahead of a CNews hair, despite everything in shape with 3.5 % of audience shares. BFMTV follows at 3.2 %, while Franceinfo ranks good last, not enjoying the event with 1.0 % PDA.
“We can become the second news channel”
In addition to the news around the war in Ukraine, which has been widely covered on the antenna since the start of the conflict, LCI has benefited since June from the upheaval of the numbers of the chains. Following the non-recondition of TNT frequencies of C 8 and NRJ 12, the Arcom made the creation of a block around the continuous information channels, between channels 13 and 16. Positioned before at the end of the list, on the 26, LCI recovered number 15, which was so far allocated to BFMTV (now in 13).
Its audiences increased in part thanks to this upheaval, climbing 2.0 % over the whole month of July (+ 0.4 points over a year) and already achieving the objective officially set by management and initially planned for the end of 2025. CNEWS and BFMTV were better, with respectively 3.1 % (stable) and 2.7 % (-0.7), unlike Franceinfo, 0.9 % (-0.1 point).
“It’s been a while since we tell ourselves that we can become the second news channel, ahead of BFMTV,” smiles a journalist from the group. These results only strengthen this wish and the motivation of all. And our chefs believe in the back to school grid! »»
