A tragedy in the night. During the night of Sunday to Monday, one person died and several were injured following a violent explosion causing a fire in a building in Vénissieux, in the Rhône, according to information from TF1, confirmed to 20 Minutes by the Rhône prefecture.
The facts took place around 3:30 am, on the fourth floor of a seven -story building in the Minguettes district, in the suburbs of the south of Lyon.
A body was found in the apartment where the explosion of a gas cylinder, which is of accidental origin, was held, according to a police source. A hypothesis which remains to be confirmed by the investigation. Eighteen people were injured, in relative emergency and nine people were transported to the hospital for verifications, said the prefecture of the Rhône.
90 firefighters mobilized
According to Progressan important rescue system has been mobilized, with nearly 90 firefighters and around forty vehicles dispatched to the scene. A rehousing operation is provided for residents evacuated overnight.
The prefect delegate for defense and security was on site on Monday morning.
