Donostia – San Sebastian> Donostia – San Sebastian 212Km

The Tour de France is over, I can now focus my attention on the rest of the season. I’ll admit, I loved the first 10 stages of the Tour, but the last week left me feeling rather empty. Maybe it was the dominance of Pogačar, the gap between him and Vingegaard is huge and rather deflating for those dreaming of a proper fight. I mentioned previously about the relatively low standard further down the top 10 and I stand by that, I think that also played a part in my final week apathy, thank God for Wout Van Aert, the final stage in Paris was special and must be included next year. Pogačar has decided to skip the Vuelta, even he’s fed up winning grand tours, and now we’ve got a series of races where he’s not racing, and some scraps are on the table for the others to fight over.

Slight change in route compared to last year, Murgil Tontorra is back as the final climb and 212km is the shortest ever edition of this race (as far as I can tell). The organisers have tinkered with the finale in recent years, this route looks almost identical to 2022, that was won by Remco Evenepoel after a 45km solo attack. Just one week after the Tour, we’ll have to see which of the Tour riders have recovered well enough to challenge.
