The hospital held its annual Fashion with Purpose Gala Saturday for cancer survivors at L’Auberge Casino Resort. Nevertheless, Organizers say the gala brings in around $300,000 each year to help provide treatments and other resources for cancer patients. Moreover,
Alana Harrington is one of eight cancer survivors participating in the fashion gala. Furthermore, She says she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma last year.
“Actually, I found it in Stage 1, which is very rare for that type of cancer to find that early. So, it was very early detection. You know. I credit that to my knowledge I’ve learned from working at the hospital and what they’ve taught me about memorial hospital hosts annual fashion looking for certain things that might be suspicious,” said cancer survivor Alana Harrington.
Harrington says her support system was there for her during that difficult time.
“My faith was a big part of that. My church, St. Luke-Simpson, was such a big support and all that you know with their prayer and other people surrounding me. My family, friends and my husband especially, were there for me through it all.”
Now cancer-free. Harrington says she is proud to participate in the fashion gala after receiving cancer treatment from Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
“It’s real exciting. you know a little bit of nerves but, you know I’m excited to get all dressed up and get to see all the people you know my coworkers will be here and my family, as well and get to see the people that were supporting me through memorial hospital hosts annual fashion this whole process and get to celebrate with them during this wonderful time,” she said.
Fashion with Purpose benefits the cancer fund for the Foundation at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. The fund supports cancer patients with transportation, lodging assistance and nutrition during treatment, along with other medical needs.
“It’s absolutely incredible. We were talking about it earlier. I said, ‘It’s our own little version of Christmas that we get to come here tonight and celebrate with our community members and know that all of the money that we’re raising stays right here to support Southwest Louisiana,’” said event coordinator Ada O’Quinn.
Over 600 people attended the event Saturday.
