PGA: Rory Mcilroy “Rétice” to wear his green jacket

You can follow the PGA circuit championship from Thursday 3 p.m. on RDS and RDS.CA.

Rory McILroy did not leave the national ausguta as champion of the masters tournament before making a last little purchase of the souvenir shop.

There is said that there were 1100 flags available at the store.

“And we took the 1100,” said McILroy Tuesday at the dawn of the circuit championship, the last tournament of his most memorable season in the PGA thanks to a Sunday in April.

“It was a lot,” said Mcilroy about the flags he signed. But I’m never going to take me away from signing them. I waited 17 years to sign this flag in the middle, and I will never complain. »»

The players still sign flags for supporters, but the golf protocol stipulates that only a champion of the masters tournament can sign his name inside the outline of the United States which is part of the flags of the Master Tournament.

A little more than four months have passed since McILroy delivered a spectacular end to his 17 -year conquest to win the green jacket, by succeeding in a bird during the first oxygree hole against Justin Rose to complete his big slam.

He has not won a tournament since and at times, he said he had to find motivation. But being a champion of the masters tournament does not lose his appeal. He already plans trips to the national Augusta, a luxury reserved for champions.

If there is one thing that surprises him, it is his right to wear the green jacket for a year.

He almost never wears it.

McILroy said he wore him all night until he sets to 3:30 in the morning (the evening of his victory), then he had felt the same sensations as several others before him when he woke up. He saw the jacket on a chair, a reminder that it was not a dream.

He brought it during a brief appearance at a dinner of the association of golf journalists during British omnium. Otherwise, the opportunities were rare.

“I’m reluctant to wear it,” said Mcilroy. It is not as if I was carrying it often. It is hung in my wardrobe in a place where I can see it every day. I always thought that if I had one – if I won the masters one day – I was never going to remove it, and it is not in this way that everything is going. I did not wear it as much as I would have thought. »»

McILroy said he planned trips with friends and some members of the National Augusta with whom he has become a friend in recent years. He will have to wear him in the “club house”, which he should do without being twisted an arm.

“I have always said that some of my favorite moments in Augusta were not the masters tournament,” said McILroy about times he went there for the practice.

“But it will be adorable to go there next time and go to the Champions locker room to put my jacket. »»
