This trip will put images on what she feels at the bottom of her heart, give an echo to memories buried in her unconscious. Assist his thirst for knowledge and heal his soul. “”
This week, I’m going to tell you more than the world of Delphine Giraud published by River editions! It is an overwhelming novel that explores the question of identity and the quest for oneself through the character of Maya, a teenager in search of answers on her country of origin, Guatemala.
The summary
Maya is a teenager who has been adopted in Guatemala, a country from which her paternal grandmother also comes. She knows where she comes from, knows her story but still feels a void that she wishes to fill since the death of her adoptive mother.
A racist remark of a classmate-that of too much-will amplify this discomfort at Maya. His father Zach then decides to take him to Guatemala in order to have answers which will allow him to find his place and his identity. They therefore go to Panajachel, to Mamita’s sister. They will face the harsh reality of the country, far from the dreams that Mayan had. The difficulty of obtaining answers on its origins will transform their journey into a real investigation across the country.
Why I liked
Guatemala lives in her. Even the child who has just been born feels the vibrations of his land. When she was still in the belly her mother, her tongue rocked her. “”
I loved plunging into this novel on two points of view, that of Maya and Zach. This brings from depth to history.
We easily put ourselves in their place, discovering their history with them. I felt a lot of empathy and tenderness as the pages go, reading more about a country that I little know through the testimonies of the people they meet throughout their trip. For me, it is a novel of great beauty, touching and full of life! The relationship between Maya and Zach deeply touched me. Zach is her adoptive father, but her love and devotion for her prove that we love her child regardless of the bond of blood.
No one, whether organic or adoptive parent, raises their children for oneself. Giving them all weapons so that they can stand on their own two feet is that it loves them. “”
It is also a novel that teaches us a lot about the history of Guatemala, the civil war that has ravaged the country and difficult living conditions, namely poverty and corruption that reign. Maya’s quest is therefore quickly complicated because of the country’s administration, the disappearance of the orphanage and the difficulty in finding tracks to which to be attached …
By plunging yourself into larger than the world, you will go on a trip with Maya and Zach, in search of their past. A novel with beautiful encounters, strong emotions from which you will come out touched in the heart. To read absolutely!
