WHL: Josh Gorges becomes assistant coach with Kelowna’s Rockets

Former Montreal Canadiens Defender Josh Gorges was appointed Deputy Coach of Kelowna Rockets in the West League (WHL).

The team, which will be hostess of the Memorial Cup in May 2026, made the announcement on Wednesday.

He will support coach Derrick Martin, associate coach Don Hay and deputy coach Brandon McMillan behind the bench.

Gorges is from Kelowna and he wore the colors of the Rockets during his junior internship from 2000 to 2004, playing 306 games and amassing 199 points. He was the Captain of the Rockets in his last season and helped this team raise the Memorial Cup.

“Josh has a champion list, NHL’s experience and deep ties with this city and our organization,” said Bruce Hamilton, President and Managing Director of the Rockets. “He embodied the values of Kelowna’s Rockets and understands what it takes to win here. We are delighted to reintegrate it in this new role. »»

In the NHL, he played 750 games with San Jose Sharks, Canadians and Buffalo Sabers. He totaled 124 points in 783 games.
