The swimming star Penny Oleksiak, of Toronto was informed by the International Control Agency of what could be a violation of the anti -doping rules.
According to ACI, Oleksiak committed three shortcomings concerning location, between October 2024 and June 2025.
She was informed of it and accepted a voluntary provisional suspension, pending the resolution of the case.
She has the right to provide her explanations for each of the three shortcomings.
The case being underway, the ACI, World Aquatics and Oleksiak will make no other comment during the procedure.
This suggests that the third failed control occurred after the qualification of Oleksiak for the aquatic Worlds, in Singapore.
In an Instagram publication now deleted, Oleksiak announced two weeks ago that she was withdrawing from the team of the Worlds and accepted a voluntary provisional suspension.
Any possible sanction would be reduced by the duration of its voluntary provisional suspension.
In its publication, Oleksiak said: “I am and I have always been an athlete (respecting the rules)” and that the case “does not imply any prohibited substance; This is to know if I have properly updated my information. ”
Swimming Canada has echoed this feeling and said: “We support her decision and believe that she is an athlete (respecting the rules) who made an administrative error.”
A location case is a violation of the anti -doping rules which can affect the eligibility of an athlete, even if the athlete has never consumed a prohibited substance.
The World Anti -Doping Code defines a breach of location obligations like any combination of three missed controls or breaches of the declaration of declaration, over a period of 12 months.
The “recorded target group” athletes, the highest level of athletes control, are required to declare their exact and up -to -date location information at all times.
This makes it possible that they are undergoing anti -doping control at any time and in any place, without notice.
According to World Aquatics, if an athlete subject to tests subjects “late, inaccurate or incomplete location information which prevents him from being available for tests, he can receive a failure of declaration”.
